Trip to the Outer Banks

After months of preparation, we finally got the pigeons down to the Outer Banks. We started on our trip last night. After we both got off work, we finished packing up the truck, loaded up 29 birds and a rabbit and headed to Gananoque, Ontario; 2 1/2 hours east and close to the border. Luckily we had found out that you have to go thru when the vet is there, which is between 8 and 4, which predetermined our trip planning. We spent a nice night in this touristy town of 1,000 islands and even got to gamble a bit at the OLG Casino. We knew a storm was on the way and they weren't kidding; we woke up to 6 inches of snow! Steve's Dad's truck is rear-wheel drive only; we had it loaded down pretty good and besides a couple of scary moments, really had no problems. The Vet at the border gave us the A-OK after checking out the birds - whew! Snow turned to rain turned to sun thru NY, PA, Eastern Shores of DE, MD, VA (stopped at Stucky's for a delicious cheeseburger) and finally to NC where we introduced the birds to their beautiful new home built under the barn by Scott. We are very excited.
